The Federal Reserve’s Federal Open Markets Committee – which oversees interest rates and, counterintuitively, centrally plans the “open market” economy – is jacking up interest rates .75%, and is considering a similarly-sized increase next month.
A formal recessionary period won’t be far on its heels, though plenty of indicators suggest it’s already here: retail sales were down .3% in May, after dropping steadily each month since the start of the year.

Animal rights activists failed to persuade a New York State Court of Appeals that an elephant at the Bronx Zoo is a person who is entitled to live outside of captivity.
Attorneys for the zoo argue that the elephant, named Happy, is in fact an elephant and not a person, and is “respected as the magnificent creature she is.”

Internet Explorer by Microsoft made it nearly 27 years. Now, it’s dead.
People who try to open the app are now directed to Edge, Microsoft’s latest browser project. But if you’re a sucker for the classic, Microsoft has an “Internet Explorer” mode within Edge that will make older, legacy applications work just fine.

THE SWAMP
ELON MUSK says he currently plans to vote for RON DESANTIS for president in 2024, though the Florida Governor hasn’t announced a bid.
Musk made the comment on Twitter after noting he voted for Republican MAYRA FLORES for the special election in Texas’s 34th Congressional District. That seat has been held by a Democrat for 40 years.
WORTH NOTING: Flores was born in Mexico and came to the United States when she was six years old.
SO, NATURALLY: Democrat Congressman JAMAAL BOWMAN took to Twitter to accuse Musk of racism, writing, “Elon Musk is not a leader. He’s just another Republican billionaire who supports white supremacy and authoritarianism because he doesn’t want his workers to unionize or to pay his fair share in taxes. The GOP just tried to end democracy and now he’s supporting them.
A COUPLE OF THINGS:
Last year, Musk paid more taxes in a single year than any other person in the history of the country, around $15 billion.
Musk supported a foreign-born woman for Congress – isn’t that the Democrat dream of equity and championing identity politics? Or are they just exacerbating strife among racial minorities and women in order to advance a far-left, socialist agenda?
A company setting wage standards and work requirements is a far cry from authoritarianism; perhaps Bowman, as a leftist, simply sees private enterprise as extensions of the State anyway.
BY THE WAY: When asked about Musk’s support at a press conference Wednesday, Desantis said he welcomes all support from the African-American community.

CASTING CALL
Actress PATRICIA HEATON is not okay with Disney choosing CHRIS EVANS to voice Buzz Lightyear in the new flick, instead of TIM ALLEN.
“Saw the trailer for Buzz Lightyear and all I can say is Disney/Pixar made a HUGE mistake in not casting my pal Tim Allen in the role that he originated, the role he owns,” Heaton wrote on Twitter.
Production sources explained that the casting switch up was due to the film being about the real person who inspired the toy featured in “Toy Story,” which is voiced by Allen.
“Lightyear” hits theaters tomorrow.
