America’s total revolving credit balance spiked 20% in April, to an unprecedented total of $1.103 trillion.
In 2020, while people cashed government checks and stopped driving to work, Americans paid off $83 billion in credit card balances, but now appear to be using their credit to keep their heads above water amid rising inflation or, worse, run up their accounts rather than go back to work.
The labor force participation rate, which measures how many people are eligible to work and are looking for work, remains below pre-pandemic levels. Total labor force participation has shrunk by two million people since February 2020.
IT GETS WORSE: Total household debt is more than $15.84 trillion, including all mortgage debt, student loan debt, and auto loan debt.
By contrast, the gross domestic product in 2019, pre-pandemic, was just over $21 trillion.
IN OTHER WORDS: If we liquidated the entire economy, the nation would barely have anything left after paying off everyone’s debt.
BY THE WAY: This is totally separate from the more than $30 trillion debt the government owes.

The Missouri Court of Appeals has upheld a ruling that requires GEICO to pay $5.2 million to a woman who sued after contracting HPV following a tryst in her then-boyfriend’s car.
The Virginian-Pilot reports that in May 2021, “The man was found liable for not disclosing his infection status and the woman was awarded $5.2 million for damages and injuries to be paid by GEICO.”
Since then, GEICO’s appeals have been unsuccessful.

Researchers are encouraging the public to download a new app, called Sharktivity, which allows them to report shark sightings off Cape Cod in Massachusetts. The app also serves as an educational tool for beachgoers and will send push notifications about any big fish spotted along the coast.
The hope is that the app can keep not only those wanting to swim in the coastal waters safe, but also the giant sea creatures who inhabit them.

Actress REBEL WILSON, 42, revealed she is dating RAMONA AGRUMA.
She announced the new relationship on Instagram with a photo of the two, along with a caption that read, “I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince…but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess #loveislove.”
TMZ reports that Agruma owns sustainable clothing brand Lemon Ve Limon based out of Los Angeles.
Wilson last dated JACOB BUSCH, 30, whose family founded Anheuser-Busch.
BRITNEY SPEARS, 40, and SAM ASGHARI, 28, tied the knot at their Thousand Oaks home on Thursday.
While the ceremony was attended by 60 of those closest to the couple, several significant people were missing. Britney’s two sons, SEAN PRESTON, 16, and JAYDEN JAMES, 15, who she shares with ex-husband KEVIN FEDERLINE were not there; though the trio sent their well wishes.
Also, absent -- due to not being invited -- were the singer’s parents and younger sister.
Those who did attend included: PARIS HILTON, SELENA GOMEZ, MADONNA, GWYNETH PALTROW and KATE HUDSON.
BRING ON THE DRAMA: Brit’s ex-husband, JASON ALEXANDER, attempted to crash the nuptials, claiming he had been invited. After yelling “I’m her first husband, I’m here to crash the wedding,” he was able to make it into her home. He was then restrained by event security and handed over to the LAPD, according to TMZ.
Senator JOSH HAWLEY has released emails from Department of Homeland Security bureaucrats discussing the creation of the Disinformation Governance Board, a project that was largely scrapped by the administration after its head, NINA JANKOWICZ, was revealed to be a partisan operative.
The emails show that this internal Ministry of Truth sought “to discuss operationalizing public-private partnerships between DHS and Twitter” – in other words, using Twitter to spy on Americans. In particular, according to the internal emails, they wanted to keep tabs and silence people with the wrong opinions about the security of the 2020 general election or the origins of covid.
The Washington Examiner has been going to town on its copy of HUNTER BIDEN’s laptop.
On Thursday, they discovered a payroll record that included compensation for LUNDEN ROBERTS – the woman who sued Hunter for a paternity test and won, revealing he was indeed the father of her child.
Being on payroll for Hunter’s company also meant paying Roberts’ healthcare.
None of this is new; Roberts disclosed the compensation when she sued Hunter for child support in 2019. But the text messages between Hunter and his assistant reveal something far more troubling.
When Hunter saw this payroll record from October 2018, he texted his assistant to get Lunden off the dole immediately. He said in part, “We need to completely abandon this old process and come [up] with a new one. New accounts new record keeping new everything.”
WORTH ASKING: What old process? Of paying people off through his companies? Did he also funnel money to the prostitutes he took videos and photos of himself doing drugs with? Did he also funnel money to his drug dealers through his companies? Did he use money from international businesses in China or Ukraine to pay for projects around his father’s home? Why doesn’t Jim Acosta care to find out?

TODD and JULIE CHRISLEY being found guilty of bank fraud and tax evasions has put the future of their reality TV show in jeopardy.
“Chrisley Knows Best,” was picked up for a 10th season in May, just a week before their federal trial began.
Insiders told TMZ the situation is “very fluid” as production is awaiting their sentencing before making a final decision.
Sentencing is set for October. Todd and Julie face 30 years.

The film follows three young people, a policeman named Tom (Styles), a teacher named Marion (Corrin) and a museum curator, played by DAVID DAWSON, who embark on an emotional journey in 1950s Britain. Flash forward to the 1990s, the three are still dealing with the damage of the past.
The flick will be released on Prime Video this November.
Ahead of R. KELLY’s scheduled sentencing later this month, federal prosecutors have an idea for how long he should be locked up.
According to a legal filing, federal prosecutors are asking for the singer and convicted sex offender to sit in prison for more than 25 years.
Kelly, who was found guilty last September of sexually abusing women, boys and girls, will be sentenced on June 29.

KYLIE MINOGUE, 54, blocked KYLIE JENNER, 24, from trademarking their shared moniker for her beauty brand.
While the situation went down a few years ago, Minogue recently spoke about it with ANDY COHEN on “Watch What Happens Live.”
“I’ve spent my life protecting my brand and building my brand, so it was just something that had to be done,” she told the Bravo host.
WHAT’S MORE: The elder Kylie launched her own beauty brand -- simply named Kylie -- in 2019.

Netflix is not happy that PRINCE HARRY and MEGHAN MARKLE failed to get a photo op with QUEEN ELIZABETH and other royals during their trip to the UK.
“I heard Netflix wanted these pictures of them with the royals,” royal expert Angela Levin told a British News outlet this week. “It would be very valuable, very valuable to them,” she added.
A royal insider told The Sun that Harry and Meghan wanted their personal photographer to take photos of them with the Queen, but they were told “not a chance.”
BUT: A rep for the Sussexes told The Post that they understood it was a private family event and never asked to have photos taken.

ON THIS DATE
1752 – Future revolutionary icon Ben Franklin performs his famous kite experiment, in which he collected a charge when the kite was struck by lightning.
Throughout his experiments, Franklin laid the groundwork for the many of the theories that govern modern understanding of electricity.
He coined the terms battery, conductor, and electrician. He was also the first to use a lightning rod.
1940 – The Norwegians buckle to Nazi invasion.
Two months earlier, the strategic attack began. From within, fascist resistance captured key points, quickly bringing the government down, along with its already limp military.
The takeover was planned in part with former Norwegian Minister of Defense Vidkun Quisling, who threw in with the Nazis in 1934. After the invasion, Quisling was made the leader of the only legal party in Norway.
After the fall of the Nazis, Quisling was arrested and shot for treason. His name is synonymous with "traitor" in Scandinavian and surrounding countries -- much like "Judas" in the Bible or "Benedict Arnold" in the US.
1977 – The Apple II, Apple's first consumer-friendly PC, goes on sale.
On board: 4 kb or RAM, an audiocassette loader, and monitor that displayed 24 lines of text in 40 columns -- for nearly $1,300. That's about $5,000 today.
Today's mid-range Apple laptop is literally one million times more powerful for less than half the price.
2003 – The Mars Spirit Rover launches.
It was primarily tasked with studying the geological makeup of the Red Planet.
Its mission duration was not expected to be very long. But by a stroke of luck, a small dust devil passed nearby, and blew the dust off of the rover's solar panels, drastically lengthening the duration of the mission.
2007 – HBO series “The Sopranos” airs its finale.
More than 12 million viewers watched the end of the award-winning Mob drama; the first to graphically and explicitly show the inner workings of a fictitious mob family.
The show is credited in part with making HBO a serious player in producing great original programming.
2020 - Statues of Confederate figures and explorers become the focal point of Black Lives Matter protests, with many being removed in solidarity with the movement.
Some of those canceled include Confederate President Jefferson Davis and Christopher Columbus.
