Here’s how pointless Europe’s energy sanctions on Russia are: The European Commission announced Monday procedures that energy companies can follow to legally circumvent the sanctions and import Russian natural gas.
It’s a lot of bureaucratic showmanship about how Russia gets paid and by what banks. But ultimately, Russia is still generating near-record income from its natural gas exports.
IN OTHER WORDS: Tell me this isn’t a government operation.
###
NOW I’M PISSED: Police in Washington state are investigating the manager of an Arby’s for urinating into a bag of milkshake mix.
IT GETS WORSE: Not only did this d-bag film the act – cops only discovered the video because they seized his phone as part of a child pornography investigation.
The Huffington Post reports that the weirdo says he threw out the bags after he did the deed, which he said gave him sexual gratification.

Some animals just love the city, apparently.
In January, officials in San Diego had to rescue a sea lion that made its way onto the freeway. It was taken to Sea World.
But now, the same sea lion was spotted in a storm drain that could’ve taken it to the same spot on the freeway it was first found.
Veterinarians are studying the animal to try to figure out a reason for its hijinx.

THE SWAMP
Former President DONALD TRUMP says he’s writing a book about the 2020 election.
Tentatively titled “Crime of the Century,” Trump told a rally over the weekend: "This is the greatest hoax, heist. This is one of the greatest crimes in the history of our country. And sadly, the prosecutors don't want to do anything about it."
In a rare turn away from touting his own perpetual awesomeness, Trump added, "I don't think you'll enjoy it. You'll be very depressed when you read it, but we want to have it down for historic reasons.”
No word yet on a publication date.

“Rust” producer ANJUL NIGAM believes that after the investigation into the tragic death of cinematographer HALYNA HUTCHINS, filming on the movie will continue.
That being said, Nigam and fellow producer and star of “Rust,” ALEC BALDWIN, face legal issues related to Hutchins’ death. Her husband filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the producers in February, alleging that cost-cutting led to the accidental shooting.
In response to the suit, producers argue that the case should be thrown out because it was a workplace accident, which should be handled through the state workers’ compensation program.
ALSO: New Mexico safety agency found that the producers demonstrated an “indifference” to the welfare of the cast and crew and issued a fine of nearly $137,000 for safety violations in April. The producers are challenging that report as well.
WHAT’S MORE: While all of this is going on in the background, Nigam and Baldwin are moving forward with several other projects, with no fear of retribution. Nigam seemed to allude to this when he told The Hollywood Reporter that he is “confident about continuing to make quality movies.”

A PRINCE HARRY and MEGHAN MARKLE look-alike couple were spotted walking around Windsor Castle with a camera crew in tow.
The fake Meghan wore a white pantsuit, while the fake Harry donned royal garb. The two stopped to take photos with royal fans — some of whom actually thought they were the real deal, according to TMZ.
After circling the castle, the two stopped by a pub for some lunch, where they took more selfies.
It’s unknown why the camera crew was following them -- perhaps to make them seem more authentic?
As for the real Harry and Meghan, they will be in the UK next month to attend QUEEN ELIZABETH’s Platinum Jubilee.

1673 - French explorers Jacques Marquette and Louis Joliette set out to explore the Mississippi River. They departed from what is present-day Ashland, WI.
Marquette learned about the route from Illinois Indians who had ventured north. In the Huron language, Mississippi means "big river."
The expedition crossed from Lake Michigan through the Fox River. Five were along for the adventure in two canoes.
After reaching the Mississippi they headed south. Their expedition ended 435 miles short of the Gulf of Mexico. Marquette feared an encounter with Spanish settlers after seeing natives with European goods. After heading south for mile after mile, Marquette also figured the route wouldn't take him to the Pacific Ocean.

###
1954 - The U.S. Supreme Court rules that racially segregated schools are unconstitutional. The unanimous nine-to-zero decision overturned the separate-but-equal doctrine, noting that separate educational facilities would inherently be unequal, and violate the equal protection clause.
