In 2021, the Corporate Transparency Act became law, and with it a new rule that required anyone in the country who created a company, large or small, to report basic information to the federal government about its “beneficial owners.” It was designed to limit the use of shell companies for hiding illicit financial activities and carried hefty fines for non-compliance. In application, the threat of $591-a-day fines, $10,000 in criminal penalties, and two years in prison deterred small business creation.

NOW: The Treasury Department has issued a rule blocking its implementation and exempting American citizens and corporations from filing these reports.

POPEWATCH: Despite the generally optimistic messages coming from The Vatican during POPE FRANCIS’ weekslong hospital stay, doctors did consider stopping the Pontiff’s treatment in order to allow him to die in peace.

At the end of February, one medical episode left Francis’ medical team with the fateful decision to continue treatment against the respiratory infection even at risk to other organs. The Pope had delegated any life-or-death decisions to his personal nurse, who ordered the team to proceed with treatments.
