Among the people and businesses bilked out of billions by FTX is the “Margaritaville” location in the Bahamas, which says the crypto exchange owes them nearly $600,000.
When the company first went bust, multiple outlets reported that FTX subsidiary Alameda Research owed nearly $60K. Turns out that was a drop in the bucket, by a factor of ten, because FTX employees rented the company’s suites for extended periods. [via New York Post]
IT GETS WORSE: One perk of working at FTX was a $200 stipend for employees to spend on DoorDash – every day!
Using a special product for enterprise organizations, “DoorDash for Work” – where companies could pay the food and delivery fees directly instead of offering reimbursements – FTX spent nearly $400,000 on the service over a span of just three months in 2022. They’re still on the hook for around $46,000. [via Insider]

Officials in Bali are pushing to end the open policy of giving easy visas to tourists from Ukraine and Russia. The tropical vacation destination has seen a major uptick in visitors from Russia and Ukraine since the former’s invasion last year: An estimated 58,000 Russians traveled there last year, and another 22,500 visited Bali in January alone.
Officials say these vacationers have shirked the limits of their visas and have even begun taking jobs as taxi drivers and hairdressers. [via CNN]

If you subscribe to HelloFresh’s meal kits, you may have been enjoying the fruits of exploited monkey labor.
It’s exactly what it sounds like: coconut producers in Thailand apparently rely on training monkeys to climb trees and toss coconuts to the ground. Animal rights group PETA says this abuse.
Moving forward, HelloFresh says they’ll source coconuts from other countries. [via Axios]

THE SWAMP
Former President DONALD TRUMP started his weekend on Saturday by declaring on Truth Social he expects to be arrested on Tuesday. In an all-caps dispatch, the former Commander-in-Chief declared, “THE FAR & AWAY LEADING REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE AND FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WILL BE ARRESTED ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK!”
Within hours, a spokesman for Trump said he does not have direct knowledge of a planned arrest. If Trump is indicted, it would be connected to payments he made to porn star STORMY DANIELS to keep quiet over an affair Trump contends never happened.
The grand jury hearing evidence reportedly still has a witness to hear from today before voting on any indictment.
MEANWHILE: On Thursday last week, the Republican-led House Committee on Oversight and Accountability announced it had obtained bank records directly connecting payments from a Chinese energy firm to members of the Biden family, just weeks after JOE BIDEN left office as Vice President in 2017.
Hours after these bank records came to light, lawyers for HUNTER BIDEN sued the computer repair shop owner who handed over the contents of Hunter’s laptop to Trump allies in 2016 – they say this was a breach of privacy, but stopped short of admitting all of the laptop information that went public actually belonged to the First Son.
BUT WAIT: When asked by a reporter to address the bank records discovered by the House committee, President JOE BIDEN said the report is “not true.”
WATCH:

WORTH ASKING: What does this mean? Is he saying that the bank records were somehow falsified?

THE DAILY KARDASHOPUS
KRIS JENNER is the latest celebrity to be parodied for a musical by comedian RYAN RAFTERY.
“Mother of the Year” follows Jenner to Laos for an experimental fertility treatment in order to have more children to manage. After arriving, something goes wrong and she’s afflicted with temporary amnesia and is forced to stay in Laos to be re-educated on the role she played in creating The Kardashians. With her new found clarity on life and her parenting choices, Jenner must decide whether to keep the baby in light of the reversal of Roe v. Wade.
For the parody, Raftery told The Hollywood Reporter that he received a wig -- from “Kris’ hair guy” -- to “get the look right” for taking on the role of Jenner.
“It’s like putting on the Ring of Power from ‘The Lord of the Rings,’” he exclaimed.
“Mother of the Year” is Raftery’s seventh celebrity musical. He previously parodied ANNA WINTOUR, ANDY COHEN, MARTHA STEWART, CALVIN KLEIN, IVANKA TRUMP and ANDY WARHOL. [via Hollywood Reporter]

ON THIS DATE
1413 – Henry V formally succeeds his father — Henry the Fourth — to the Royal Throne of England.
The new monarch had been running the show for quite some time behind the scenes while his father suffered from a skin disease — possibly leprosy — and ongoing ailments.
Henry V took it upon himself to invade France and take back the land he believed to belong to his grandfather, Edward III.
He would eventually win this land and marry into the French royal family, but he died a short 9 years after taking the crown.
###
1778 – Three members of an American delegation arrive in the court of King Louis XVI of France.
Ben Franklin led Silas Deane and Arthur Lee to present the Americans' case for help from the French in the Revolutionary War. While Louis was distrustful and skeptical of the delegates, he couldn't pass up an opportunity to fight the British.
France had lost the Seven Years’ War as well as much of its North American holdings, and Louis was eager for revenge.
French military support eventually played a crucial role in America’s victory.
###
1854 – Disillusioned Whigs meet in Ripon, Wisconsin to formalize the formation of a new political party.
That party — the Republicans — was founded on the core principle of preventing the spread of slavery into the western territories.
They had been meeting often to suggest new strategies to combat slavery. The meeting on this date in 1854 helped solidify the movement.
In November 1860, Abraham Lincoln became the first Republican president.
###
1953 – Nikita Khrushchev is selected as a Secretariat of the Communist Party in the Soviet Union.
He rose to power after Stalin died three weeks earlier.
Georgi Malenkov had served as First Secretary of the Communist Party and Soviet Premier in the days following Stalin's death, but Malenkov didn’t have the political support to take over the USSR.
Khrushchev pushed the Communist Party to replace the First Secretary with a group of five leaders called the Secretariat. Khrushchev would be in charge of this group, of course.
In September of that year, he gained enough support to replace Malenkov as First Secretary. Two years later, Malenkov was replaced with a puppet of Khrushchev's and three years after that, Khrushchev named himself premier.
So, there's the premier, the five-man secretariat, and the First Secretary of the communist party.
At the pinnacle of his power, Khrushchev held all 3 positions.
###
1999 – The first American Legoland opens.
It's in Carlsbad, California, and features an amusement park experience centered on a Lego theme.
A water park opened in 2010.
###
2010 - The Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland begins to erupt.
Over the next three months, the cloud of smoke and ash expanded over large parts of Northern Europe. For one week in April, twenty countries closed their airspace entirely for commercial jets, stranding an estimated 10 million people.
Seismic activity continued for several weeks, but the eruption period was formally declared finished in October.
