FOLLOW UP: The $1 sailboat listed on Craigslist over the New Year holiday in Florida will be destroyed.
The vessel was beached in late December after a rough storm. Its owner, facing $20,000 in costs to get it afloat again or face penalties like fines or even jailtime, opted to try to sell it for next to nothing. But with the deadline looming and no buyers, he decided to have it dismantled.
Workers from the city have already begun the demolition process. Locals, who were largely amused by the new attraction for the first days, tell local media they’re relieved it’s gone.
Local reporting also says the owner is too distraught for comment. [via WESH]

Later this month, the Paradise Spas apartment complex in Las Vegas will be demolished for a new development. As leases have expired and the final tenants have moved out, the largely empty facility has become home to hundreds of stray cats that animal rights activists fear could be killed in the demolition.
“There are hundreds of cats here on property that have been here a long time, and they get into the ceiling and the roofs in the walls. We’ve taken them out of the walls before,” the property manager tells local media.

SEAN COMBS is reportedly “throwing tantrums” over the attention that LUIGI MANGIONE is receiving inside their shared home at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
“Even in prison, Diddy’s ego is bigger than life,” one source told the NY Post. “He always wants to be the center of everything.” Since his arrival, Mangione has been an obsession for other inmates who have shared their own frustrations with the health insurance industry.
The fact that the two share a legal team (sort of) is also probably a thorn in Combs’ side (his lawyer is married to Mangione’s). [via NY Post]

The 2003 flick was based on the book of the same name by Louis Sachar.
While the book and movie followed Stanley Yelnats, who gets sent to a juvenile detention camp for a crime he didn’t commit, the series will center on a teenage girl. The part about digging holes under the watchful scorn of a ruthless Warden will be kept the same, however. [via IMDb]
