HIT LIST
Here’s the latest on the attempted assassination of DONALD TRUMP and murder of COREY COMPERATORE:
– The New York Times obtained text messages between local law enforcement patrolling the event site on July 13, showing discussion between officers about a suspicious person, who turned out to be the shooter, more than 90 minutes before the shooting took place. The officer who spotted the eventual shooter was aware he had a backpack and was using a rangefinder aimed at the stage.
WORTH ASKING: Why wasn’t it communicated to the Secret Service to keep Trump from taking the stage until they were able to verify the suspect wasn’t a threat?
– The FBI has inexplicably not yet held a “victim interview” with Trump, who has agreed to sit for one. The Bureau says this is standard practice as part of such an investigation.
– New footage from the day of the shooting has surfaced online, taken by an event attendee who gave his phone to the state police, who later returned it. The video was taken from beyond the fence line of the secure perimeter, near the notorious AGR building, where the shooter setup his gun. The footage does not reveal any obvious evidence, but does suggest that police were aware there was a situation somewhere in or near the AGR building before the shots were fired. A CNN poll shows 86% of American renters would like to buy a home but cannot afford to do so. Making matters worse, a majority, at 54%, believe they’ll never have the means to buy one. [via CNN]
MEANWHILE: Americans can’t afford to put money away in savings, either.
The personal savings rate – meaning the percentage of an individual’s income that they sock away in a savings account – fell to 3.4% in June. That’s the second-worst since the 2008 financial crisis. The worst was 2022.
WORTH REMEMBERING: Thanks to generous pandemic-era government benefits, Americans added $2.3 TRILLION in aggregate savings in 2021. That excess balance has been virtually depleted in this economy.
IT GETS WORSE: Total credit card debt is just $3 BILLION short of an all-time high this month. [via Kobeissi Letter]

New intelligence from the government of South Korea confirms, for now, that KIM JONG JUNIOR is actively preparing his daughter JU AE to succeed him.
Ju Ae first appeared in public in 2022, joining her despotic father to watch a missile launch.
Junior is believed to have three children, including a son older than Ju Ae by about three years.
Junior is also likely the youngest son of his father, who tapped him to succeed after eldest son Kim Jong-nam grew too enamored with the capitalist West. That’s the same older brother who Junior later had assassinated in a chemical attack.

If you’re taking semaglutide for weight loss, double-check your dose.
The FDA reports an increase in hospitalizations from users self-administering far too much of the drug, in some cases 20 times more than they should be taking.
Overdose symptoms run the gamut of discomfort, including nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fainting, headache, migraine, dehydration, acute pancreatitis, and gallstones, the FDA says.
In most cases, users giving themselves the jab pulled too much of the drug from a multiple-use vial. There may have also been confusion about the difference between milliliters and milligrams – an important distinction. [via CBS News]

An invasion of dragonflies turned one Rhode Island beach into a nightmare over the weekend.
Those enjoying the nice weather were bombarded by “biblical plague”-like swarms of the flying insects. While many tried to escape the buzzing, others used sand toys to swat the bugs away.
As for what caused the swarm? Experts say it was likely due to breeding or chasing after smaller insects that were kicked into the air.
NOT-SO FUN FACT: Dragonfly swarms can number into the BILLIONS (with a B!), and be detected on radar. [via WCVB, WBUR]

SHOWBIZ NEWS
UPDATE: A new report from TMZ provides some more insight into what went down the night of JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE’s DWI arrest.
According to the outlet, a car driven by friends of the singer, who he had been following, came back to where he was pulled over. After failing multiple sobriety tests and reeking of booze, JT was handcuffed, at which point a woman from the other car jumped out and asked the officer, “Are you going to arrest Justin Timberlake?”
When it was clear that was the case, the woman offered to drive him to her house so he could sleep it off. Instead, JT was put in the back of a cop car and his keys were given to the woman, who proceeded to drive his car home.
WHY DOES THIS MATTER?: JT’s lawyer thinks that the officers allowing the woman -- who had reportedly also been drinking that evening -- to drive off could be grounds for the case to be dismissed -- questioning the officer's judgment. [via TMZ]

BRITNEY SPEARS’ Thousand Oaks mansion landed on real estate sites Monday, despite her not listing it.
Social media sleuths alerted the pop princess to the listing, which shows a selling price of around $9 million.
After some digging, it turns out that the MLS was hacked, and once the home hit the site it was quickly picked up by other real estate sites, including Realtor.com and Zillow. By mid-afternoon there were even some high-end agents associated with the listing, who later said they had no idea it was fake.
The listing has since been deleted. [via X]

“There were incidents. People showed up at my house. People were stalking me. A guy showed up at one of my premieres with a gun, claiming to be my father,” he told The Guardian.
Hartnett appears to be ready for the limelight again, starring in M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller “Trap,” which hits theaters Friday. [via The Guardian]

ANDY COHEN screwed up his commentary while watching the Germany vs USA Women’s Soccer game over the weekend.
After Team USA scored a goal, Germany’s goalie was seen lying on the ground, prompting Cohen to say, “Oh, look at Germany crying on the floor. That is not sportsmanlike.” Turns out the goalie was actually on the ground because she was injured.
“Oh, she’s hurt. Oh, sorry,” Cohen quickly followed up.
Fans laughed along with the mixup, with many attributing his assumption of dramatic crying to working with all of the ladies from the “Real Housewives” franchises. [via The Blast]

JESSE WILLIAMS’ character, Tobert, won't be returning for Season 4 of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.”
“I’m not on that show anymore,” he bluntly told People.
Tobert debuted in Season 3, alongside fellow newbies MERYL STREEP and PAUL RUDD. The end of the season left his storyline “open-ended” for a possible return, which at this moment doesn’t sound likely.
Streep and Rudd return for the upcoming season, joining original stars SELENA GOMEZ, STEVE MARTIN and MARTIN SHORT.
Season 4 premieres on August 27. [via People]

PAULY SHORE is still set on making a RICHARD SIMMONS biopic happen despite the fitness guru’s recent passing.
As previously reported, Simmons was found on the floor of his bathroom earlier this month - just one day after his 76th birthday. While there is an ongoing investigation into his death, authorities believe it was due to natural causes.
As for his thoughts on the biopic, at first Simmons was against it, calling out Shore for not getting his permission, but then changed his tune a few days later wishing him “good luck.” [via TMZ]

Several video games, including “Grand Theft Auto 6,” will not be affected by SAG-AFTRA’s current strike.
According to PC Gamer, the strike only impacts new games in production, not ones that started over a year ago. While the union is not happy about this, there isn’t much they can do at the moment.
In the meantime, picketing will continue until a new contract can be agreed upon with game makers. [via PC Gamer]

THE DAILY KARDASHOPUS
YE and BIANCA CENSORI made headlines again this week over some poor parenting choices.
The duo were spotted at a movie theater over the weekend with Ye’s daughter NORTH WEST. The trio were there to watch “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which social media users were quick to call out as being “inappropriate” for the 10-year-old.
Not only that, but Censori’s outfit of choice for the outing left her buttcheeks exposed, prompting more backlash.
No word on whether or not KIM KARDASHIAN was privy to the movie date. [via The Mirror]

WE’LL NEVER BE ROYALS
PRINCESS ANNE presented gold medals to Great Britain’s equestrian team after winning the top prize in the equestrian eventing competition on Monday.
WORTH NOTING: “Eventing” is a thing in the horse world. It’s a multi-day event combining dressage (performing a series of predetermined movements), cross-country (a test of the horse and rider’s endurance, speed, and jumping abilities), and show jumping (completing a gated course in a set amount of time).
Anne herself competed in the same event in the 1976 Olympics but did not medal.
BY THE WAY: France took home silver; Japan the bronze.
