TARIFF TALK
– PRESIDENT TRUMP has given foreign countries until the end of the day today to give their best offers for new trade deals, otherwise the blanket tariffs imposed earlier this year will go back in place. Multiple reports indicate Trump is eager to get deals done first with the European Union, Japan, Vietnam, and India.
– Trump signed an Executive Order on Tuesday that raises tariffs on steel and aluminum to 50%, though it exempts the United Kingdom, which the administration says is a reflection of their commitment to ongoing negotiations.
– Trade reps for both China and the US have accused the other of violating terms of a deal set in Geneva, Switzerland, last month, that suspended astronomical tariffs for about three months. A spokesman for China’s commerce department says Trump’s move to revoke the visas of Chinese students undermines the deal. In recent public comments, Treasury Secretary SCOTT BESSENT has indicated talks likely won’t advance until Trump and XI XINPING speak directly.

SHMOLLEGE: In an ironic twist, recent graduates with computer science majors are among those having the toughest time finding a job, as artificial intelligence technology replaces a lot of the grunt work done by young coders and programmers.
Americans with computer science degrees face a 6.1% unemployment rate, the seventh-worst degree to have; while the circumstances could certainly be worse, the shift is a far cry from the “learn to code” battle cry from just a few years ago.
On the other end of things, holding a major in nutrition sciences, construction services, and civil engineering means an unemployment rate under 1%. [via Newsweek]

Locals in Rutherford County, Tennessee, have reported a zebra on the loose.
It was first spotted near the interstate on Saturday, just a day after private owners took possession of the animal. Later, it wandered around a quiet subdivision.
By Monday, the Sheriff’s Office enlisted professional animal tracking groups to help find the zebra with the help of a K9 unit, too.
Anyone who encounters the zebra are encouraged to not engage and report the location to authorities. [via WGNS Radio]

Hospitality guide LA LISTE has published its rankings of the best ten hotels in the world – in a ten-way tie.
The firm pulls in information from press coverage instead of deploying independent reviewers and uses an algorithm to rate hotels on a 100-point rubric. The top ten finalists all had near-perfect scores of 99.5. There was a 47-way tie for second place, with properties that scored 99 points.
