TARIFF TALK
American and Chinese negotiators met in London to continue advancing new trade terms.
The US team included Commerce Secretary HOWARD LUTNICK, Secretary Treasury SCOTT BESSENT, and Trade Representative JAMIESON GREER, alongside their Chinese counterparts, at Lancaster House, a mansion next to the Buckingham Palace estate, and next door to Clarence House, KING CHARLES’ residence (though he had nothing to do with the talks). Insiders say the next step in advancing talks is to ease China’s restrictions on rare earth element exports – in particular, materials used in production of high tech products.
The discussions follow a brief phone call between PRESIDENT TRUMP and President of China XI XINPING held last week. [via AP News]

US Marines will deploy to secure and defend federal buildings from rioters in Los Angeles, amid mounting violence and tensions against federal law enforcement officials.
The move is an escalation from the National Guard troops that PRESIDENT TRUMP ordered into the city over the weekend, drawing rebukes from California Governor GAVIN NEWSOM and other Democrat governors who signed an open letter in protest.
Conflicting reports suggest the Defense Department will deploy between 500 and 700 troops. [via WSJ]
MEANWHILE: California’s Attorney General has announced a lawsuit against the Trump administration for deploying the National Guard, arguing the move violated state sovereignty.

The artificial intelligence revolution continues to grow, with AMAZON announcing a $20 BILLION investment to build two new data centers in Pennsylvania. The Commonwealth says it’s the single biggest capital investment in its history.
One of the data centers will be built immediately next to the Susquehanna nuclear power plant and use about 40% of the plant’s total capacity. Activists say the literal direct connection could increase prices for residential customers and small businesses.
The expansion is just another move in Amazon’s massive A.I. investments; the tech giant has recently announced similar $10 BILLION projects in Mississippi, Ohio, Indiana, and North Carolina. [via ABC News]

The unidentified runner spent about a minute on the loose as multiple staffers tried to stop him. Eventually a van with more officers caught up to the culprit, and he gave up.

A cow heading to auction tried to escape by jumping into the crowd at a livestock event in Arkansas; taking out some ceiling tiles along the way.
Auctioneers quickly left their seats as the cow hoofed its way to an exit, only to find itself cornered behind the top row of bleachers.
Farmers were able to capture it and get it safely out of the building.
